What is the warranty period of WPC Flooring?

Hey there! I’m a supplier of WPC flooring, and I often get asked about the warranty period of WPC flooring. So, I thought I’d write this blog to shed some light on this topic. WPC Flooring

First off, let’s talk about what WPC flooring is. WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composite. It’s a type of flooring that combines the best features of wood and plastic. It looks like real wood, but it’s more durable, water – resistant, and easier to maintain.

Now, the warranty period of WPC flooring can vary quite a bit. There isn’t a one – size – fits – all answer. It depends on a bunch of factors.

Factors Affecting the Warranty Period

Quality of Materials

The quality of the materials used in making the WPC flooring is a huge factor. If we use high – grade wood fibers and top – notch plastic resins, the flooring is likely to be more durable. For example, if we source the wood fibers from sustainably managed forests and use virgin plastic resins instead of recycled ones with unknown quality, the flooring will have better resistance to wear and tear. Flooring made from high – quality materials can usually come with a longer warranty, maybe around 10 – 20 years. On the other hand, if we cut corners and use lower – quality materials, the warranty might be only 3 – 5 years.

Manufacturing Process

The way the WPC flooring is manufactured also plays a big role. A well – controlled manufacturing process ensures that the flooring is uniform in quality. For instance, if the extrusion process is precisely calibrated to make sure the thickness and density of the flooring are consistent, it will be more reliable. Also, proper treatment of the surface, like applying a high – quality UV coating, can enhance the flooring’s resistance to fading and scratching. Flooring made through a meticulous manufacturing process can often back up a longer warranty.

Usage Environment

The place where the WPC flooring is installed matters a lot. If it’s installed in a residential setting with normal foot traffic, like a living room or a bedroom, the wear and tear will be much less compared to a commercial area such as a shopping mall or a restaurant. In a residential environment, we might offer a warranty of around 15 – 20 years. But for commercial use, due to the higher foot traffic and more rigorous conditions, the warranty might be reduced to 5 – 10 years.

Installation Quality

Even the best – quality WPC flooring can have issues if it’s not installed correctly. If the subfloor isn’t properly prepared, or if the flooring isn’t installed with the right techniques, it could lead to problems like buckling or gaps. That’s why many suppliers, including me, require that the flooring be installed by a professional installer. If the installation is done by an unqualified person, it might void the warranty.

Typical Warranty Periods

Generally speaking, for residential use, we often see warranty periods ranging from 10 to 20 years. This gives homeowners the peace of mind that their investment in the flooring is protected for a long time. The 10 – year warranty is quite common for mid – range WPC flooring products. It’s suitable for most average – use residential areas. If you have a family with kids and pets, but the overall foot traffic isn’t extremely high, a 10 – year – warranted WPC flooring can be a great choice.

On the high – end of the residential market, we have 20 – year warranty products. These are usually made with the highest – quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. They are more resistant to scratches, stains, and fading. If you’re looking for a luxury look for your home and want a flooring that will last for decades without major issues, a 20 – year – warranted WPC flooring is the way to go.

For commercial applications, the warranties are usually shorter. A typical commercial – grade WPC flooring might come with a 5 – to 10 – year warranty. Commercial areas have a lot more foot traffic, and the flooring is exposed to more heavy loads and potential damage. So, a shorter warranty reflects the harsher usage conditions.

What’s Covered in the Warranty?

The warranty usually covers a few key aspects. First, it covers manufacturing defects. If there are any problems with the material or the production process, like uneven coloring, cracks that develop within the warranty period due to internal flaws, we’ll replace the affected parts.

It also covers wear – related issues to an extent. For example, if the surface of the flooring starts to wear prematurely, and it’s not due to excessive abuse or improper maintenance, the warranty will kick in. However, it’s important to note that normal wear and tear over time is expected, and the warranty doesn’t cover every little scratch.

Color fading is another thing that’s often covered. If the flooring fades significantly more than what’s considered normal within the warranty period, we’ll take care of it. But again, this is under normal usage conditions, not if you’ve been exposing the flooring to direct sunlight for hours every day without any protection.

What’s Not Covered

There are some things that the warranty doesn’t cover. As I mentioned before, improper installation is a big one. If the flooring is installed incorrectly, any problems that arise from that won’t be covered. For example, if the installer didn’t leave enough expansion gaps, and the flooring buckles as a result, it’s not our responsibility under the warranty.

Excessive abuse is also not covered. If you drag heavy furniture across the floor without using protectors, or if you use harsh chemicals that aren’t recommended for cleaning the WPC flooring, any damage caused by these actions won’t be covered by the warranty.

Another thing not covered is damage due to natural disasters or unforeseen circumstances. For example, if there’s a flood in your area and the flooring gets water – damaged beyond what it’s designed to withstand, it’s not covered by the standard warranty.
